Shifty Shellshock, born Seth Binzer, the lead singer of the rap-rock band Crazy Town, has passed away at the age of 49. Binzer died on Monday at a residence in Los Angeles, as confirmed by the Los Angeles Medical Examiner. The cause of death is currently unknown.
Crazy Town rose to fame with their 1999 single “Butterfly,” which topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2001. Their debut album, “The Gift of Game,” released in 1999, sold 1.6 million copies. However, the band disbanded in 2003 following diminishing success in their later projects.
The band had more than a dozen current and former members, including co-founder Bret “Epic” Mazur, DJ Rick One, Mark White, Adam “DJ Adam 12” Bravin, Charles “Rust Epique” Lopez, and the late Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein.
In 2007, Binzer and Mazur reformed Crazy Town and released an album in 2015. Mazur left the band in 2017, prompting Binzer to rename the band Crazy Town X.
Binzer was also known for his appearances on VH1’s reality series “Celebrity Rehab” with Dr. Drew Pinsky. He appeared in Season 1 in 2008 for cocaine addiction and returned in Season 2 after a relapse. He also appeared on the spin-off series “Celebrity Rehab Presents Sober House” in its first two seasons in 2009 and 2010.
We extend our condolences to Binzer’s family, friends, and fans during this difficult time.
